Pets and Cars

With the hot temperatures, the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane society is reminding pet owners not to leave their animals in parked cars whilst unattended.

Cruelty Inspector, Gary Boes tells 570’s Jeff Allan Show that sadly the Humane Society deals with these types of calls each year.

Some people just don’t get it, according to Boes. Within minutes temperatures in parked cars can spike, and high heat can lead to irreveresible brain damage, and even death in animals.

Boes says there are several misgivings when it comes to what people believe about leaving their pets in the car. He says parking in the shade will not help, and rolling the windows down a couple inches does not offer any cross-ventilation.

Boes says in addition to the potential death of your pet, you could be criminally charged. Under the statutes in place now you could face up to 5 years in jail.
