Kitchener looking to help restaurants open outdoor patios

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Ontario restaurants are not allowed to offer indoor dining at the moment due to the current restrictions, but the City of Kitchener is looking to help them set up outdoor patios this winter.

More information can be found on the city's website (www.kitchener.ca/patios).

“Our local restaurant owners continue to show their resiliency in the face of this pandemic,” Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said in a news release. “We know how hard these restrictions have been on restaurant operators and we're doing everything we can to enable them to pivot – some with outdoor winter dining as an option.”

Over 100 establishments in the city took advantage of the patio expansion program last year.

The city points out it was also one of the first municipalities to provide expedited approvals, often times those approvals were granted in less than 24 hours.
