New team lead coming in to help with water capacity issue

The Region of Waterloo has announced a new Commissioner of Water and Wastewater Services.
Ishtiaque Tunio has been given the role which will lead the current team in addressing and continuing work on the water capacity issue in the Mannheim Service Area.
That area includes Kitchener, Waterloo, parts of Cambridge, as well as Woolwich and Wilmot.
Ishtiaque Tunio has been awarded the role. Tunio is one of the many names behind major infrastructure projects including the Gordie Howe International Bridge and Union Station’s Rail Corridor program.
Over the past two decades, Tunio has worked with the City of Mississauga, the City of Ottawa, the Maryland Transportation Authority, Metrolinx, and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority.
“I am honoured to join the Region of Waterloo at an important time as we plan for the needs of a growing community and continue to invest in essential water and wastewater services,” said Tunio
“Throughout my career, I have focused on bringing people and organizations together to deliver complex infrastructure safely, responsibly, and with a long-term perspective. I look forward to working alongside the Region’s dedicated staff, Council, partners and the community to strengthen these essential services and ensure they continue to meet the needs of residents for generations to come.”
Tunio begins his new role on September 8.
