Crash closes EB 401 lanes at James Snow Parkway

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed at James Snow Parkway during the busy Monday afternoon and evening commutes due to a multi-vehicle collision.

OPP said drivers travelling eastbound were being forced to exit the 401 at James Snow through Milton.

Westbound 401 lanes remained open in the area but were moving very slowly.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said it started when a vehicle struck the “crash cushion” that separates the express and collectors lanes.

“That sent the vehicle out of control into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer,” Schmidt said.

He noted injuries were reported, including to the vehicle’s driver who was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The collision also triggered a chain reaction in the area.

“Four vehicles, all told, involved — with a collision with debris as a result of this collision,” said Schmidt.

The eastbound side of the highway isn’t expected to reopen for several hours due to the clean-up and ongoing investigation.
