The City of Kitchener will be getting a nice cheque from the Province of Ontario after surpassing its new housing start target last year.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Rob Flack, announced the City is in line for $8,013,600 through the third round of the Building Faster Fund.
The fund rewards municipalities for reaching at least 80 per cent of its annual housing targets.
In 2025, Kitchener started 3,005 new homes. That’s over 85 per cent of the target.
In a press release, Kitchener Mayor, Berry Vrbanovic said, “This investment, through the Building Faster Fund, reflects the strong commitment of Council, staff and our community to taking action, accelerating progress and delivering more housing for the residents of Kitchener.
Since the program began, Kitchener has demonstrated that through strong collaboration with our provincial counterparts and a willingness to act, we can deliver housing faster.” This is the third year in a row the City of Kitchener has qualified for the funding boost.
