Environment Canada issued a blowing snow and snow squall advisory for the Region of Waterloo after a system kicked up the bitterly cold wind.
A brief band of heavy snow is set to impact the region, bringing a possible 5 to 10 centimetres of accumulation. The warning notes it is expected to start early afternoon and continue into the evening.
The weather agency set the advisories at a yellow level, the lowest of three levels in its new colour-coded system.
It noted that drivers need to expect significantly reduced visibility at times with snow blowing across roadways, especially on Monday afternoon and evening.
“Snow drifting will be most pronounced in open and wind-exposed areas,” it notes. “Travel will likely be hazardous due to near-zero visibility.”
Wind from the west could reach gusts between 60 and 80 km/h, with a wind chill, it could feel like -20 and -25.
Most of this week is believed to be frigid with well below seasonal temperatures. Except, the forecast is showing one exception: Wednesday’s high could get close to zero.
