Donation boxes targeted during break-ins at three local religious centres

By Justin Koehler

Investigations are now underway by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) after three separate break-ins at local religious centres, all of which targeted donation boxes.

Police state investigations are ongoing for each incident, all of which took place between May 10 and Aug. 13.

Officers said that in all three of the reported break-ins, the suspect in question was able to gain entry using the front door. Then, once inside, police said they targeted the money located in secure donation boxes in the building.

WRPS said in a release that it believes each of the three incidents was carried out by the same person.

Those investigations remain ongoing through WRPS’ Break, Enter, and Vehicle Theft Team, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit, the Forensic Identification Unit, and other support services within the Investigative Services Branch.

It’s asking that anyone with further information on the suspect or the incidents themselves reach out at 519-570-9777.
