Rangers clinch their spot in the OHL playoffs with win over Storm

The Kitchener Rangers have clinched a playoff spot for the 11th straight season following a dominant 6-2 victory over the Guelph Storm on Friday night.

Guelph took control early in the first period with Rowan Topp’s second goal of the season at 13:48. But it did not take Kitchener long to get back into the game, as Jack Pridham scored his team-leading 32nd goal of the season to start the second period, extending his point streak to 12 games.

Dylan Edwards added a goal of his own minutes later, as did Christian Humphreys on the power-play, giving the Rangers a 3-1 lead heading into the third.

Guelph centre Jaakko Wycisk made it a one-goal game to start off the final period, but that’s all that the Storm could muster on offence. Kitchener retaliated with three more goals in the period, including two more on the power-play by Humphreys, securing the hat-trick.

Haeden Ellis got his third goal in three games, with captain Cameron Reid getting three assists on the night. Friday’s victory extends the Rangers’ point streak to 14 games.

The Rangers continue to hold onto the top of the Western Conference at 73 points, while holding the tie-breaker between the Windsor Spitfires and the Flint Firebirds.

Up next for the Rangers will be a Saturday road trip down to Niagara to take on the Ice Dogs.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m., and you can catch all the action on 570 News Radio starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show.
