Man charged, three assaulted after attempted home break-ins

An 18-year-old is facing four counts of break and enter, after regional police say he attempted to break into four Kitchener homes.

The homes in question were all in the Wren Place area of the city, near River Road East, on the edge of the Stanley Park neighbourhood. Police say Monday night around 8:50 p.m., the young man attempted to break into the homes and was confronted by the homeowners.

Three people were allegedly assaulted before the suspect fled the area.

Just five minutes later, officers found the suspect and made an arrest.

An 18-year-old has since been charged with four counts of break and enter, and three counts of assault.

Anyone with information regarding the break-in attempts is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Waterloo regional police are reminding residents to keep doors and windows locked at all times, even when home.

They are asking that all valuables be kept out of plain sight to avoid becoming a target to break-ins.

Some other tips include:

  • Install audible noise alarm systems
  • Secure residences with home video surveillance cameras in the front and back of the residence
  • Notify neighbours when away for an extended period and arrange to have someone check on your residence
  • Report any suspicious persons or vehicles to police
