Shoplifter sprays staff with noxious substance in Kitchener

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Police are searching for a shoplifter who allegedly sprayed staff with a noxious substance at a Kitchener store over the weekend.

Waterloo Regional Police were called to a retail business in the King Street East and Sportsworld Drive area on Saturday afternoon.

It’s alleged a woman entered the store, tried to hide multiple items and walkout with them — without paying.

Staff intervened and that’s when the suspect reportedly pulled out a noxious substance and sprayed it at the employees.

Luckily, no one was hurt and the woman left the store before officers arrived.

Police have released photos of a woman they want to identify in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information can contact police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8255 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
