SIU invokes mandate after crash in Cambridge sends 53-year-old to hospital

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate after a single-vehicle crash in Cambridge.
According to the SIU, their initial investigation notes Waterloo Regional Police officers attempted to stop a vehicle for alleged traffic violations n the Shantz Hill Road and Fountain Street South area around 12:05 a.m. on Aug. 21.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop for police before ending up in the collision at a property in the area.
The driver, identified as a 53-year-old woman, was sent to hospital in Cambridge with undisclosed injuries. As a result, the SIU was called in.
The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time and the SIU notes it’s looking into the mechanics of the vehicle involved.
Three investigators, two forensic investigators and one subject official have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is notified any time there’s a police-involved injury, death, or allegation of sexual assault.
