An Amber Alert has been cancelled for a girl who had been reported missing in Kitchener, and now police say kidnapping charges have been laid against a Waterloo man.
Regional police responded to a residence in the Strasburg Road and Rush Meadow Street area of Kitchener around 5:30 p.m. on Monday for reports of both a break and enter, and a missing 14-year-old girl.
Police believed the girl was in the company of an adult male, potentially against her will.
“We were making best efforts to locate them,” said Waterloo Regional Police Chief Mark Crowell.
An Amber Alert was then issued around 7:17 p.m. in an effort to locate the missing teen, but it was cancelled just before 7:50 p.m.
“Ultimately, a 36-year-old male was found in company of the female in Simcoe, located by the OPP,” explained Chief Crowell.
The Waterloo man was arrested and charged with kidnapping while using a firearm and break and enter, although police say more charges are anticipated.
“I can say we’re still investigating,” said Crowell. “We’re still working through the details of their relationship.”
Police have said the victim and the accused are known to each other.
