The K-W Little Theatre brings ‘New Works Festival’ into region

The Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre (KWLT) is back performing at their black box theatre in Waterloo. After making its debut in 2024, now the New Works Festival is in it’s third year of action.
Since the festival began on Aug. 14, eight fully staged plays will be performed over the 9 day event.
In a news release the K-W Little Theatre says these three plays will be taking over the stage:
- “A Glass Darkly”: Featuring the plays 113 St. John St. by Tochi Okeke, AI Wrote This Play by Arthur Schlupp, First Date by Jeremy Hawkins, and Please, Take a Seat by Mel Mah. Presented on August 14 (evening), August 16 (matinee), and August 21 (evening).
- “Mystery Matinee!!!”: Featuring Party Crash by Cas Stonehouse, Tony’s Only by Zivy Hardy, and Where Are We (the one with Sam) by James Piper. Presented on August 15 (matinee), August 22 (matinee), and August 23 (matinee).
- “Love+Dirt”: a single performance called: “Would you still love me if I was a worm?” Presented on August 15 (evening) and August 22 (evening).
Other events and workshops scheduled
This years festival is bringing more events than live performances.
In addition to the live performances, on Aug. 17, the KWLT is inviting people to join a reading of “Hope You’ve Got a Plan.” by Talia Dmitrienko from the New Works Collective. After reading, there will be a group discussion about the book. Admission for the reading will be by donation.
Then, on Aug. 19 and 20, they will be inviting those interested to join in on their “Play-in-a-day” workshop. The workshop teaches and challenges its participants to build a play in just two days.
