The Kitchener Rangers ended their home-and-home with the London Knights in disappointing fashion after getting hammered 10-3 on Saturday.
The Knights have won 14 straight games and lead the OHL with 63 points. The Rangers have 62 points but have played two more games than London.
Rangers Head Coach Jussi Ahokas shared his thoughts on the game.
“We played two terrible periods, 1st and 2nd period we played absolutely some of our worst hockey,” Ahokas said. “They were injuring our guys, we weren’t competing, we made stupid mistakes. If you’re not defending hard enough, that’s what happens.”
The game included five different fights and several other penalties. CityNews 570’s colour commentator Paul Fixter was not impressed with what he saw.
“I really love the game of hockey, and that wasn’t hockey. I was embarrassed to be a part of that, it was pathetic, it’s not the way the game should be played. It’s a disgrace to the league that that happened, quite honestly,” Fixter said.
There was more bad news for the Rangers as Trent Swick left the game in the 1st period and did not return.
However, Eduard Sale did score his first goal as a Ranger after being acquired by the team earlier in January.
The Rangers will have the week to regroup before facing the Soo Greyhounds on Friday night.
CityNews 570 will have the call with pregame coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m.
