A heat warning continues for Waterloo Region, but relief will soon be on the way.
The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 25C by Friday.
Environment Canada Senior Climatologist, David Philips says the area has had nine days above 30 degrees since May.
That compares with five days between May and just after Labour Day in 2017.
“The granddaddy of heat waves was back in 1953. You had 11 days in a row, with temperatures like this. In fact, they even got up to 36 and change,” Phillips told The Jennifer Campbell Show on 570 NEWS.
“Back in 2011, there were eight days above 30, with some that almost reached 36…This is not something we haven't dealt with before, it's just that may be after two or three years, we're a little out of practice.” added Phillips.
He says Waterloo Region also set a record on Saturday as the temp. hit 33.7 degrees.
“It's not nearly as bad with you people (Waterloo Region)…You've only had two nights, what we call tropical nights above 20. We've seen in other areas, nights have been very warm and that's often was causes the health issues,”
11 people in the Montreal area have died from complications related to the hot and humid weather.
In Waterloo Region, the heat warning has been in place since Thursday.
