Television movie about Bathurst, N.B., crash aftermath wins Emmy Kids Award

HALIFAX – A television movie about the events after a crash in 2008 that killed seven high school basketball players and their coach’s wife in New Brunswick has earned two Halifax-based producers an International Emmy Kids Award.
The movie tells the story of how the surviving players reunite and play again, while the team goes on to win a provincial championship.
Tim Hogan and Rick LeGuerrier of Dream Street Pictures were the producers of “The Phantoms,” the only Canadian nomination at this year’s awards.
The television movie was selected over nominees from the Netherlands, China and Germany at the second annual awards ceremony, which was held Monday in New York.
A news release from the Nova Scotia government says Bathurst Mayor Stephen Brunet attended the ceremony and watched as Hogan dedicated the prize to the people of his community.
The production was supported by Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia, a provincial Crown corporation.
