Motorcyclist hospitalized after 401 crash in Cambridge

By Erin Anderson

Westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed in Cambridge following a collision late Tuesday afternoon and a motorcyclist was hospitalized.

The Ministry of Transportation first reported a full closure of the westbound lanes just before 5:45 p.m. between Hespeler Rd. and Speedsville Rd.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CityNews Kitchener there was a collision in the area involving a motorcyclist.

Ornge air ambulance responded to the scene but a spokesperson confirmed they did not transport any patients.

OPP later reported that the crash involved a motorcycle and SUV, and the motorcyclist’s injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening.

Four right lanes remained blocked and drivers were told to expect delays for a prolonged period of time.

Westbound traffic quickly backed up on the 401 to the Cambridge ONroute and beyond because of the closure during the late afternoon-early evening commute.
