Region receiving $3.4M to expand GRT service for townships

The Region of Waterloo is receiving $3.4 million from the province to expand transit services for local townships.
The money comes from the Ontario Transit Investment Fund, with nearly $16-million earmarked to support reliable transit in small and remote communities.
It will support five projects for 30 communities, including Waterloo Region, as the $3.4 million local investment will go toward expanding or introducing transit services in Woolwich, Wellesley, Wilmot, and North Dumfries.
“By supporting new and expanded Grand River Transit service, the Province is helping us improve access to jobs, services and community destinations while building a more connected and sustainable region,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman in a release.
A Township Transit Strategy was outlined through GRT’s long-term business plan which includes enhancing existing routes in the townships, introducing new routes, and adding on-demand transit zones.
