King Street Unplugged kicks off in Kitchener

From July 26th to July 31st, part of King Street West will turn into a pedestrian-only area, as King Street becomes “unplugged”.
The area impacted is from College Street to Young Street, around Carl Zehr Square, with many different activities planned.
The City of Kitchener’s goal is to encourage residents of all ages to get outside and explore the downtown area.
The event is free to attend all week, with different activities and entertainment options beginning at 11 a.m.
With a list of different activities happening each day, the City of Kitchener says:
“The City invites you to unplug, stop scrolling and start strolling with a week full of activities for all ages in the heart of the city, our downtown.”
Every day of the event will have daily activities in the “Kids’ zone” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including a daily competition of cornhole, where prizes will be won.
Each day of the week has its own theme, with today’s being “Sunday fun day”, with today’s events including:
- Mayor Berry Vrbanovic’s opening remarks and the ceremonial first cornhole toss
- Show and tell, Kids’ edition
- Bingo
- DJ Picnic
- Breakdancing workshops and performances
Some of the other listed themes are: Retro Monday, Love Local Thursday, and DTK Latin Heat Friday.
