More heat, chance of thunderstorms through weekend in region

After a week of on-and-off heat in the region, Saturday and Sunday will see a return to daily highs in the high 20-degree range.
High temperature fluctuation often results in thunderstorms, and this weekend will be no different, as Environment Canada projects a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday will see a mix of sun and cloud through the early afternoon, with the thunderstorm risk beginning later in the day. Saturday’s projected high will be 26 degrees, with the humidex making it feels closer to 31. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 16 degrees, with thunderstorm risk continuing through into early Sunday.
Sunday morning will be more of the same throughout the region, alternating sunny and cloudy conditions through the morning, with a 40 percent chance of showers turning into a risk of thunderstorms in the mid-afternoon. Slightly higher temperatures are expected on Sunday; a daily high of 27 degrees will coincide with a projected 32-degree humidex.
UV levels will top out at a level of 9 or “very high” through the weekend, so take care to protect your skin at the peaks of the summer heat.
