Young girl dies after being hit by van on rural road

A tragic update to a crash in Wellesley Township last Thursday.

Waterloo regional police said on July 16, just before 8:00 p.m., a young girl in rollerblades was hit by a van on Ament Line near Road 116.

That’s about 20 minutes west of Elmira.

In an update Monday, police said the 10-year-old died of her injuries.

Police make no mention of charges. A 71-year-old man was behind the wheel of the van.

The investigation is ongoing with officers looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or has dash camera footage that could be helpful.
