Young girl seriously hurt in rural road crash west of Elmira

A young girl is fighting for her life in an out-of-region hospital, after a crash in the Millbank and Linwood areas of Wellesley Township on Thursday.

Just before 8:00 p.m., Waterloo regional police said a 10-year-old was rollerblading on Ament Line near Road 116 when she was struck by a van.

The young girl was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The area about 20 minutes west of Elmira and St. Jacobs was closed for several hours Thursday night for the investigation.

No charges have been laid at this time. Police said a 71-year-old man was behind the wheel of the involved van.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
