Guelph Police have launched a new tool hoping to better focus on emergencies in the Royal City.
The service has introduced an automated response system for non-emergency inquiries starting Wednesday.
Callers will be sent through a list of options to find the information and help they need. Multilingual support will also be available.
“This is about using technology in a thoughtful and responsible way to better serve our community while supporting our members,” said Chief Gord Cobey.
“By helping us manage routine non-emergency calls more efficiently, this solution ensures our communicators are available to focus on calls for service which need immediate and direct support.”
The service stressed that emergency calls will still be handled by a real, trained individual.
Emergency 9-1-1 calls include a situation where lives are at risk, or there is a serious injury, a crime has either occurred or is in progress, or property is at risk of either being damaged or stolen.
Non-emergency calls can be directed to 519-824-1212.
This can include any situation where a crime has occurred but is not in progress, there are no injuries, and there is no immediate threat.
