Extreme heat wave set to hit Waterloo Region for Canada Day

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

It’s set to be a hot and sweaty Canada Day here in Waterloo Region, as the first significant heat wave of the summer season brings temperatures that feel like 40.

The warm weather starts on Monday with sunny skies and a high of 29 C, though the humidex will make it feel like 36.

An orange warning for heat takes effect beginning Tuesday with daytime highs in the 30s and humidex values in the 40s.

Environment Canada says the hottest days are expected to be Wednesday and Thursday.

The extreme heat comes with health risks, especially for older folks and people living with underlying conditions. Be sure to limit periods of exposure to the heat where possible.

There’s also a risk of severe thunderstorms due to the conditions and deteriorating air quality.
