Special weather statement calls for thunderstorms

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement as thunderstorms are in the forecast.

Showers are expected early Wednesday evening and 40 mm of rainfall is possible.

As the system intensifies, wind gusts could also reach between 70 and 90 km/h.

“Watches or warnings may be issued closer to the event as the path of this low-pressure system becomes more certain,” reads the weather alert.

The national weather agency said the conditions could continue overnight and into Thursday morning.

Heavy rain and strong wind gusts were listed as the primary threats.
