Regional Police investigate ‘swatting’ incidents at three local schools

Regional police have provided an update about the investigation into threats made to multiple elementary schools, Tuesday morning.

Police are now treating the cases as three swatting incidents.

Between 9 a.m. and 9:10 a.m., Alpine Public in Kitchener, Ayr Public and Baden Public, all received phone calls from an unidentified individual who stated they were heading to the school with weapons with the intention of harming staff and students.

Just before 10 a.m. Police placed the schools in hold and secure while officers searched the facilities. They were all cleared just before 11 a.m.

“Swatting” is the act of falsely reporting an emergency to trigger a large police response.

The WRPS General Investigations Unit continues to investigate the matter.
