Youth takes gun from safe, points weapon at another youth: WRPS

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) has issued a safety reminder for firearm owners after a weapons call in North Dumfries.

Sunday night, police received reports of a youth pointing a gun at another youth in the township.

Investigators determined the two minors had been involved in a verbal altercation on a residential road.

One youth then pointed a long gun at the other, before lowering it. No injuries were reported.

Police say the weapon was not loaded and had been taken from a gun safe inside the youth’s home.

“As a result of the investigation, two firearms, ammunition, and a firearms licence were seized for safekeeping pending a court process,” reads a release from WRPS. “Due to the age of the youth involved, no criminal charges have been laid at this time.”

Police are urging firearm owners to ensure all guns are safely and securely stored, and inaccessible to kids.
