Waterloo regional police are still looking into a suspicious fire that shut down a busy shopping centre in the City of Waterloo.
It was on the evening of March 15 that emergency crews were called out to the Walmart Supercentre in the area of Bridgeport Road East and Weber Street North for reports of a fire inside that business.
The fire was quickly extinguished by Waterloo Fire Rescue, with no injuries reported.
It wasn’t long before investigators deemed that fire to be suspicious.
The parent company of the location, Walmart Canada, also released a statement calling the fire “a criminal act of arson,” warning that the action would result in disruption for those who rely on the store.
Police have since released surveillance images of a man they’d like to identify in connection with the fire. It’s believed that the individual left the area in a grey Honda SUV, pictured below.

Anyone with information related to the fire is asked to contact regional police at 519-570-9777.
Anonymous information can also be provided through Crime Stoppers, either online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
