Waterloo theatre to undergo upgrades ahead of fall anniversary

Moviegoers in Uptown Waterloo will soon be sitting in more comfortable and better-located seats when they visit Princess Twin Cinemas this fall.

The owners of Princess Cinemas have decided to undergo renovations to the seating at the cinema this summer, starting with upgrades to the seating in cinema one at the Twin Cinemas.

Those upgrades will improve the location of the seating and give folks who decide to watch a movie at the cinema more leg room.

“The fact that the aisles are on the side walls and we’re eliminating that middle row means the best seats in the house are back right where they should be: right in the middle,” said John Tutt, owner of the Princess Cinemas.

Tutt opened the Princess Cinema in Waterloo nearly 41 years ago after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University.

“We go against the grain,” said Tutt. “We open cinemas in downtowns. We’re close to where people live. Our programming model has been consistent since the day we opened. People know what our vibe is.”

Upgrades to cinema one are set to be completed by July, followed by upgrades to cinema two, which are planned to be completed in time for the Princess Cinema’s 41st anniversary in September.
