It will be a send-off to remember for the Kitchener Rangers.
Just like it did in 2008, the community is coming together for a rally to celebrate a massive OHL Championship win.
The Rangers claimed the title for the fifth time in franchise history in Barrie, with a 4-2 win and 4-0 series sweep.
A rally is being held to celebrate the victory and send the Rangers off to the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna, B.C., the biggest stage for Canadian junior hockey.
The party starts Tuesday, May 19, at 5 p.m. in Carl Zehr Square at Kitchener City Hall, with a performance by the Golden Keys and then the introduction of the winning team.
The rally wraps up at 6:30 p.m.
“This is an exciting and proud moment for our city,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic.
“The Kitchener Rangers have brought our community together with their incredible championship run, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements and sending them off to the Memorial Cup with the full support of their fans from Kitchener and beyond firmly behind them.”
“Our players and staff have worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone, and the support from our fans and the community has meant everything to us,” said Kitchener Rangers chief operating officer Joe Birch. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this moment together and carry that energy with us as we represent Kitchener on the national stage.”
The Memorial Cup runs from May 21-31. The Rangers first face-off against host Kelowna Rockets at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 22.
