The day Kitchener Rangers fans have waited for all season long is finally here.
On Wednesday night, the Blueshirts kick off the OHL Finals on home ice at The Aud against the Barrie Colts.
The Rangers secured their spot in the finals after completing their series against the Windsor Spitfires on Friday and earned some extra rest ahead of the finals when compared to the Colts.
Barrie booked their ticket to the finals on Monday after defeating the Brantford Bulldogs in Game 7. The Colts trailed that series 3-1 before winning three games in a row and knocking Brantford out of the playoffs.
The Colts and Rangers played each other twice during the regular season, with the most recent meeting coming back in January at The Aud. Barrie won both meetings against Kitchener in overtime.
Colts forward Cole Beaudoin has led the way in scoring throughout the regular season and the playoffs, with a combined 118 points; however, he has missed multiple games in a row through injury, and his return remains unclear.
For the Colts, it’s their fifth trip to the finals in franchise history, with their latest attempt at the cup coming back in 2013 when they lost to the London Knights. Barrie has won the J Ross Robertson Cup once, with that win coming back in 2000. They have never won the Memorial Cup.
