Rangers to host Spitfires in Game 2 after Overtime Classic

Heart rates are likely still pumping after an overtime thriller in OHL Western Conference Finals game one, but there is no rest in the playoffs.

The Kitchener Rangers play host to the Windsor Spitfires Sunday night in game two of the Blueshirts’ second straight conference finals series.

All eyes will be on Sam O’Reilly after he scored the heroic powerplay game-winner in game one; his eighth game-winning goal as a Kitchener Ranger.

Many of his eleven goals this playoff have been set up by Christian Humphreys, who sits one assist behind overage player of the year winner Jack Pridham, for most on the team.

The goaltenders started slow on Friday but found their form late, as Kitchener’s Christian Kirsch and Windsor’s Joey Costanzo traded highlight-reel saves back in forth in a scoreless third-period and eighteen minutes of overtime.

A major question mark for the Rangers will be early goal prevention. They’ve now allowed a goal in the opening minute of their last two games, one courtesy of Sault Ste. Marie’s Quinn McKenzie and the other from Windsor’s Anthony Cristoforo on Friday.

Discipline will be needed for Windsor to correct the course, as they served six penalties and a misconduct in the opener. Kitchener had two penalties.

The rivalry between the two squads is well established, with the Rangers reverse-sweeping the one-seeded Spitfires as the eighth seed in 2025. Since the start of that calendar year, Kitchener leads the head-to-head matchup twelve to eight.

Both teams have a chance to add another win to that ledger when puck drops for game two at the Aud just past 6 p.m. Full coverage of the game on 570 NewsRadio kicks off with the pre-game show at 5:30 p.m.
