Vaccination suspensions take effect in April for regional high school students

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Local high school students with outdated vaccination records could be suspended in three weeks.

Region of Waterloo Public Health says suspension orders were mailed to 3,258 secondary students in early March. If the students don’t submit updated records or a valid exemption by 4:30 p.m. on April 6, they will be suspended as of April 9.

“It is important to keep your child’s vaccines up to date and to report them to Public Health promptly to avoid school suspension,” said Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, in a release.

The routine vaccinations are required under the Immunization of School Pupils Act.

Appointments can be booked with health care providers, or by checking availability at participating walk-in clinics.

Students with outdated records who don’t have a health care provider can receive vaccines at Public Health’s clinics at 150 Main St. in Cambridge and 20 Weber St. in Kitchener.
