After a rollout that included missed or partial collection, crews working overtime, carts not put out properly, and extra trucks called in, the region is gearing up for week two of the new cart-based waste collection system.
Director of Waste Management at the Region of Waterloo, Olivia Kwok, said the transition is ongoing.
“This was a community effort, and I want to thank everyone who helped us adjust to the new service.”
The region notes that the extra trucks brought in from other communities last week came at no additional cost.
“We know that as residents get used to setting the carts out and operators get used to the new equipment and new routes, this process will be much smoother,” adds Kwok.
The region added that the numerous cases of missed collection reported earlier have since been resolved.
“For outstanding cases that are not picked up, the Region will reach out with next steps,” read a release.
Residents this week will also notice the Region’s Curbside Cart Education Team, coming out before the waste collection trucks arrive, to help adjust the carts so they are ready for collection.
This includes making sure the carts are two feet apart, and facing the right way, with the arrows pointing towards the street.
“This team will inform residents of any waste collection issues with a sticker and provide instructions to help guide them for the future.”
