Region of Waterloo names new CAO

A familiar face is returning to the Region of Waterloo’s corporate offices.
In a press-release, the region announced it had named Darshpreet Bhatti, P.Eng., as the Chief Administrative Officer.
Bhatti is very familiar with Waterloo Region after previously serving as Director of Rapid Transit between 2008 and 2017, as the ION LRT was being built.
Most recently, Bhatti has been working as the CEO of the Green Line LRT in Calgary and before that as Vice President of the Hazel McCallion Line for Metrolinx.
“He brings an innovative and forward-thinking approach, a deep knowledge of our community, and a demonstrated track record of leading organizations through periods of growth and change,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman, in that press-release.
“I am honoured to be joining the Region at such an important time. I look forward to working with Council, staff, and community partners to support strong governance, deliver results for residents, and ensure the organization is well positioned for the future,” said Bhatti.
Bhatti will take over for Acting CAO, Mathieu Goetzke on March 9, 2026.
