Waterloo Regional Police are looking into two incidents believed to be “swatting” or fake calls.
On February 13 around 3:55 p.m., police received a call of a suspected shooting at a home in the area of Westmount Road West and Chopin Drive. Officers responded to the home and cleared it.
Shortly after that, officers responded to another home nearby after receiving another call for similar incident and was cleared as well.
Through the investigation, it was found that both calls were cases of “swatting”, where calls are place for an emergency that doesn’t exist and leads to a police emergency response.
The General Investigations Unit is currently investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
