It wasn’t a long time, but it was a good time.
The owners of The Lab Street Eats have decided it’s time to try something else and are putting the business up for sale.
Mike Gatto took to the restaurant’s Facebook page to make the announcement in a nearly three-minute video.
“You will be seeing it up for sale. I’m very much hoping that somebody wants to come in and continue to do what we do and be a part of the community. It’s really been the little engine that could, and we’re super, super proud of it. But, it’s time to do other things.”
He said he wanted to get the truth out there before rumours began circulating. Gatto said taking on new challenges is part of his DNA.
“For those of you who have gotten to know Cindy and I, you’ll know that we’re full of ambition and we have some hopes and dreams and goals we will continue to chase, probably until the day we die,” chuckled Gatto, adding, “we just live fearlessly. It’s what we do.”
The Lab Street Eats was born out of Gatto’s love for street food. He and his wife Cindy, wanted to bring the best food truck food to a brick-and-mortar restaurant.
They opened the establishment on Victoria St. S. in late 2021.
From hosting local DJ nights to being a major supporter of the Farwell4Hire campaign in support of cystic fibrosis research, the crew at The Lab Street Eats have become valued members of the community.
Gatto didn’t indicate when restaurant will be put on the market but did say it will be Cushman & Wakefield Waterloo Region that will be handling the sale.
