Cold snap and blowing snow continue to impact Waterloo Region

The cold, dark heart of February continues here in Waterloo Region, with Environment Canada issuing two yellow warnings to kick off Saturday.

The first is for extreme cold, with the temperature falling into the -20s in the morning, with the wind chill making it feel between -30 and -35.

A blowing snow advisory is also still in effect from Friday night and is expected to continue into Saturday morning. Wind gusts are expected between 60 and 70km/h, making for very poor visibility conditions in parts of the region, especially on the roadways.

The high is expected to be -14, but the wind chill in the afternoon could still make it feel like it’s in the mid-minus 20s.

If you are heading outside this morning, be sure to take precautions, including covering up properly as frostbite can develop within minutes.

Those working outside are asked to be careful as well, including taking extra breaks and to be mindful of extreme cold symptoms; including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
