Guelph Police have arrested a 54-year-old woman after she reportedly assaulted a young woman who was waiting to catch a ride at a local bus shelter.
Officers said it happened Friday morning, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., right at a bus shelter located at the corner of Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway North.
They say an 18-year-old woman was waiting at the stop when she thought she had lost something, pulling out her phone to try to help find it.
Police say that a 54-year-old woman, who was also waiting at the stop, accused the young woman of trying to record her on the phone, subsequently punching her in the face.
The victim then ran off and contacted Guelph Police, not needing to seek medical attention after the incident.
Following the incident, Guelph Police revealed that, before the situation had occurred, the two individuals had previously known each other.
Less than 3 hours later, officers said they were able to locate the 54-year-old at a home close to the scene, where they arrested her on site.
She’s now been charged with one count of assault and is set to appear in court in the new year, on Feb. 6.
