Guelph man arrested after attempted overnight break-in

A 25-year-old man from Guelph was arrested Thursday, a day after police received reports of an attempted break-in around the Paisley Road and Edinburgh Road North area.

Wednesday, officials spoke to a resident in the area of the attempted break-in, where another resident claimed to have caught a man on camera trying to get into her backyard at 2:12 a.m. The homeowner believes the same man had entered her garage the night before and had stolen two pellet rifles.

A man from Guelph was detained early Wednesday morning, around 5:15 a.m., after police received a suspicious person call on Bagot Street.

Guelph police say that two pellet rifles, among other property, were found in his possession and were seized as stolen property, though the items had not been reported as stolen yet.

On Thursday, the 25-year-old man was arrested for a range of charges, including two counts of break and enter, two counts of trespass by night, attempt to break and enter, possessing stolen property, possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and several breaches of court orders. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
