The Kitchener Rangers returned to their winning ways in Friday night’s matchup against the Peterborough Petes, doubling the team up in a 6-3 victory.
The Blueshirts struck hard and early in the contest, with Jakub Chromiak finding the back of the net within the first 64 seconds of the game.
Less than 2 minutes later, Jack Labrash tipped another goal for the Rangers, bringing the team to an early 2-0 lead before the three-minute mark.
That pace of play carried throughout the course of the game, with six separate players collecting goals on the night, scoring in every single period.
“There was no question at any point that we were going to win the game,” Head Coach Jussi Ahokas said. “The boys came in, scored the goals we needed to score, and all in all, happy for Weston Cameron and Avery Anstis. I thought those boys played really well.”
Anstis scored one of the goals in the third period, but was consistently a part of the attack throughout much of the game, collecting an assist on a Weston Cameron goal in the second period.
“The young guys, it’s good to get them going,” Ahokas said. “We need them, and that’s a good thing. When they’re in the right spots in the third, fourth line, it’s good for them and good for their development also.”
While the consistent attack seen during the match was exactly what fans at The Aud and Ahokas were looking forward to seeing, the Head Coach said one area that he was particularly key to see was the Rangers’ ability to score on the power play. They collected two key power play goals before the night was through.
“In the London game, we played our best of what we’ve played so far in power play,” he said. “Today, we did a good job, we got the goals, and I think it’s really important that the power play started to get better and better.”
The East Avenue Blue now get the day off before heading down Highway 7 for a matchup against the Guelph Storm Sunday, in what will be the Rangers’ fourth game to cap off the week.
