A motorcyclist has been hospitalized after a serious crash on Hespeler Road in Cambridge.

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said the collision happened around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, confirming to 570 NewsRadio that the southbound lanes on Hespeler Road were closed between the Highway 401 overpass and Pinebush Road, at around 4:00 p.m.

Officers said the closure was due to a two-vehicle crash, with a spokesperson later saying the collision involved a motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 17-year-old from Cambridge, was transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, 38, did not sustain any physical injuries.

The closure on Hespeler lasted into the early evening, as the initial investigation was underway. Those lanes have since been opened back up.

Regional police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information or who saw the incident is asked to call 519-650-8500, extension 8856.
