A suspicious house fire in Kitchener is being investigated as arson and police continue to search for a resident who has gone missing, and now say foul play is believed to be involved in their disappearance.

On the morning of Oct. 19, emergency crews were called to a residential fire on Major Street, where a rear unit of the home was engulfed.

The fire caused significant property damage, although no injuries were reported.

The next day, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) shared a post online about a missing 25-year-old named Eli Wood.

Police later confirmed that Wood lived in the unit that caught fire. In the following weeks, police have been unable to locate Wood and believe foul play may be involved in their disappearance.

Wood is described as being 4’10”, between 85 and 95 pounds, with green eyes and partial white hair. They have a flower and a seahorse tattoo on their left forearm and a rainbow tattoo on their right upper arm.

Anyone with information on Wood’s whereabouts is asked to contact investigators at 519-570-9777 ext. 8191 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

Police said the investigation into the arson is ongoing by the WRPS General Investigations and Major Crime units, in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal.
