Motorists making the drive along Homer Watson Boulevard will want to be aware of some asphalt paving work headed their way this week, part of continuing plans to improve roundabout safety in the region.
Beginning on Monday night at 8, that work will bring a closure to Homer Watson Boulevard stretching from Hanson Avenue through to Treeline Place, just south of the Block Line Road roundabout. That closure is expected to be lifted on Tuesday morning around 7.
The next night on Tuesday, another closure will be put in place on Block Line Road, from Kingswood Drive to just west of Fallowfield Drive, from 8 p.m. through to 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
In both instances, the region warned that the Homer Watson Boulevard and Block Line Road roundabout will be closed during those overnight work windows.
Those closures are meant to pave the way for safety improvements to the roundabout as part of an ongoing pilot project “trailing three different crosswalk safety features” at local roundabouts. That work kicked off back in mid-August and is expected to bring raised crosswalks to the area of Homer Watson and Block Line, while two other locations in the region will see various safety improvements as well.

Each of those locations will also see improved lighting installed, alongside upgrades to storm sewer infrastructure.
You can read more about that roundabout pedestrian safety pilot, including the other two locations and the safety measures being implemented, through the EngageWR website.
