Progress at Habitat build on Shantz Hill comes with lane closures

Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region is making progress on its new build on Shantz Hill in Cambridge, but it will mean some traffic slow downs for that neighbourhood.

The City of Cambridge said there will lane reductions all week while crews put in the new servicing for a Habitat build at 325 Shantz Hill Rd.

CEO of the local Habitat chapter, Philip Mills, told 570 NewsRadio, “When all is said and done, we’re going to have twenty-four new families moving into homes on Shantz Hill.”

He said the retaining walls and foundation will be built first, and then crews will start building the 3.5 storey townhomes in September.

Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of 2026, with occupancy in 2027.

Mills said construction is always a “fickle beast,” but the teams have been doing a great job dealing with everything that’s come up, adding he’s happy with the progress so far.

As for the lane reductions, Mills said he’s “sorry to make this hard,” but he appreciates the patience of everyone in the neighbourhood while they make sure there’s more affordable housing for those who need it in Waterloo Region.
