Robbery charges laid as man threatens Uptown staff, steals goods

A 32-year-old man is now facing robbery charges after threatening staff and stealing goods from a store in Uptown Waterloo.

It was on Saturday, around noon, when Waterloo regional police were called out to the area of King Street South and Willis Way for a reported disturbance. It’s alleged that a man entered a store in that area, threatening staff before leaving the store with unpaid items.

That man then re-entered the store holding a metal pipe, again threatening staff.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the robbery.

Police said the suspect then fled the area on foot — only to be located by officers on nearby Caroline Street South.

That man was arrested and has since been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

Police say that man was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
