Waterloo regional police charged a young man as part of a theft investigation.
Police had been investigating what they call “online buy-and-sell robberies” that had occurred between Jan. 1 and Feb. 1, 2025.
The thefts all involved smartphones.
A 17-year old youth from Kitchener was arrested on June 13. He was charged with theft under $5,000, robbery and failure to comply with a judicial release order.
A search of the youth’s residence in Kitchener’s Centerville area, turned up further evidence, according to police, including smartphones.
Regional police want to remind the public that it provides Exchange Zones, where people buying and selling online can exchange their goods in a safe place.
The zones are set-up in the parking lots of WRPS facilities:
- North Division – 45 Columbia St. E., Waterloo
- Headquarters (front parking lot) – 200 Maple Grove Rd., Cambridge
- South Division – 176 Hespeler Rd., Cambridge
If you are unable to make your transaction at one of the exchange zones, police advise meeting in a well lit, public and popular place.
