Guelph Police officer briefly dragged as driver flees

A Guelph Police officer is going to be OK after they were momentarily dragged when the driver of a suspect vehicle fled the scene of an investigation.

This happened just after noon, Monday, when calls came in about a possible theft at a business on Woodlawn Road West.

The officer coming out to the scene used his police cruiser to block in a black Mercedes, with two suspects inside.

Police said the officer told the driver to hand over the keys, but when he offered up the fob, he suddenly put the Mercedes into reverse, dragging the officer along for a moment.

He was not seriously hurt.

The driver got around the cop car and took off, but police say they have since learned who the driver and passenger are, and they’re still investigating.

After the Mercedes was gone, a third suspect was arrested coming out of the business, and police allegedly found crystal meth after he was searched.

They also said he provided a stolen ID and a false name.

That 26-year-old from Caledon was arrested and charged.
