‘That’s a hypothetical question’: Redman elusive on her future as regional chair

When it comes to the possibility of the current Chair of the Region of Waterloo being appointed back into the same job, Karen Redman is staying elusive.

570 NewsRadio asked Redman on Tuesday if she would want to stay on as Chair if the Ontario government asked her about being appointed.

She said, “That’s a hypothetical question, and you’re always trained in Communications 101 in politics: you don’t answer hypothetical questions.”

The Doug Ford government has passed their bill into law that the job of regional chair will be appointed, not elected.

When asked if she knows if the government plans to appoint her back into the job, Redman said no, adding that decision will not be made until after the municipal election on Oct. 26.

Redman said she’s proud to have been elected twice to the role of chair.

And now that she doesn’t have to worry about campaigning again, and “won’t be pounding in signs and knocking on doors all summer, ” so she can focus her time and efforts on issues like the water capacity constraints.

“I will continue to work hard on behalf of my residents in every corner of the region,” she said.

Redman said, “There’s a whole lot of uncertainty” about the appointment of a person to serve as chair.

Anyone who was already registered as a nominated candidate for Chair of the Region of Waterloo has been scratched from the ballot.
