Hespeler Road at Pinebush set to reopen following watermain break

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Drivers in Cambridge had delays to deal with Thursday morning and afternoon as workers at the corner of Hespeler and Pinebush road had to make watermain break repairs.

It’s an almost repetitive issue that first burst at the intersection back on June 2, now with a second break less than two weeks later, it is continuing to cause slowdowns at one of the major intersections in the city.

Work had already begun at the intersection, but crews made their way to the other side of the roadway Thursday, reducing northbound traffic down to one lane heading towards Highway 401.

The City of Cambridge has since posted a notice on social media, as staff said they expect crews to be on scene throughout Thursday morning, with repairs to be wrapped up by midday.

According to the city, repairs were initially set to be completed as of 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon but were extended to 5 p.m.

GRT had said it was working to detour routes around the impacted area during that time of the work, with Routes 51 Hespeler and 302 ION bus, with a temporary stop put in at Conestoga-Pine Bush.
